10 tips to staying safe at a
party, pub or club
1. Take a Self defence class: It does not have to be something that
takes over your life, find a class that has simple techniques and is easy to learn. If you find something
that you really like and you go more often, all the better,
2. Dress appropriately: I’m not going to tell you to wear, when you
look in the mirror be honest and remember your clothes do tell a story, what type of story you want to
tell.
3. Don’t out with people who get themselves into trouble, avoid angry
bad drunks, If someone drinking with you starts to get aggressive leave, get a taxi, ditch the angry person
and either go somewhere else or go home without them
4. Mobile Phone: Put 000 into your cell phone on quick dial. Also
make sure you have a friends number on quick dial no 2, someone that you can trust and will help you when
needed. Also make sure your mobile phone is fully charged before you go out.
5. Buddy up and stay with your friends: if you are going out with
some one for the first time or you really don’t know them go with a girl friend or make
sure that you go some to a venue that you know, a venue that your friends go to and where there is reliable
security. Stay with your friends; don’t leave with people you don’t know. Better to be safe than sorry
later.
6. Don’t wander off alone. Especially I you have had to much to
drink, it is much safer to stay with your friends even if you have had an argument with one of your friends.
If you are going home on your own call a cab, stay in a well lit area until the cab comes.
7. Use your sixth sense: If you feel something is wrong, be careful
and trust you feeling, to often people will say I had this feeling. Trust them as it is better to be safe
than sorry.
8. Stay sober: Have fun, keep you alcohol intake to a minimum. Don't
drink so much that you're out of control. Being drunk clouds your judgment and stops you from making
intelligent decisions, don’t be tomorrow’s headlines.
9. Drink from bottles or cans that you have opened yourself, watch
your drinks being poured and don’t drink anything a random drink that some one hands you as it could be laced
with something such as a date rape drug, free drinks are not free and not worth the risk. Hold onto your
drink as it is easy to drop something into your drink when your head is turned. Don’t be paranoid just
careful
10. Don’t give out personal details to a stranger: If someone asks
for your number get theirs instead, give minimal details first and refer to first dates if you ring them and
decide to catch up.
