General fitness 4self defenceFirstly we don’t need to be a superman to defend ourselves; we
do need a certain fitness level to carry out our normal everyday activities. As a child we run around climb trees
and stairs etc. All this activity naturally increases our fitness levels. As teenagers we tend to play individual
and team sports again improving our fitness levels. Then we come to real world of working for a living, supporting
a family and making excuses for not doing those things that keep us fit. Did I say excuses, think about it, do you
walk up stairs instead of taking the escalators or lifts, do we find time to go for a walk, what about a game of
tennis, maybe play touch football or ladies what about a game of netball.
General fitness training
Work out where you need to improve your fitness levels, ask yourself the following
questions:
-
Am I over weight?
-
Do I need to increase my weight?
-
Do I need to improve my strength?
-
Can I run 100 meters?
-
If you are a swimmer can you swim 10 laps without stopping (50 meter pool)?
-
Can I walk up a set of stairs with out puffing?
-
Do I have any medical conditions?
By asking yourself the above questions would answer will tell you what fitness areas you need to
maintain or improve. No would mean you have to train in these area where yes would mean that you should maintain
what ever you are doing.
A regular training plan and a healthy diet can improve general fitness. You should always
consult your doctor before starting a new training plan. If you are not sure of what type of training you should do
and are short of time, consult a personal trainer.
